Relay For Life
This project is being sponsored by the 2010 Relay For Life team Tiger Temptresses and Tempters from the College of Technology at Idaho State University. Our goals in hosting this challenge are simple:
  • To help raise funds and awareness for Relay For Life and the efforts of the American Cancer Society in eliminating the scourge of cancer from the world.
  • To help promote healthy living and weight loss at the College of Technology, Idaho State University, and the Pocatello area.
  • To have fun and encourage a sense of community, support, and general wellness.
  • This challenge will cover eight weeks, culminating at the Relay for Life event on July 16th, 2010. The event will be held at the Century High School Track in Pocatello, Idaho.

    We're Halfway There!!!

Folks, we're at the halfway point.  Keep up the great work!  I am noticing a lot of folks aren't posting, which is okay (trust me, I can understand.)  I assume there is 0 change when this happens.  If that is not the case, please contact me and let me know.

    New Weigh-Ins Recorded

Posted by Clayn on Monday, June 7, 2010

Let me begin by apologizing for the delay in posting the new weigh-in results.  They are now updated.  Let me know if you see any errors.  Way to go for our weekly leaders - biggestlooserwannabe, crocodile, and hvlanidcera!  Keep up the good work, everyone!

    A Personal Insight

Posted by Clayn on Friday, June 4, 2010

In my weight loss journeys, I have found I lose a lot of weight the first couple of weeks and then hit a plateau, get frustrated, and then go off the diet.  So, this time I decided to go more slowly at the beginning and hope the more gradual weight loss will be sustained over time.  My realistic goal is a pound a week, which I would be content with, although 10-14 lbs would make me really happy. I love to save money, plus my summer clothes aren't fitting me so well right now, so I'm doubly motivated. Plus, if I "fail" to meet my goal on any given week, Relay for Life wins, which makes me feel good too.  So, I guess I really can't "lose."  Good luck to everyone

    And they're off!!!

The first week's results are in!  Congratulations to everyone on their progress this week!  An extra round of applause to our first week leaders:  greeneyedtrillian and biggest looser wannabe!  Impressive results!  If possible, I would encourage all of you to send me emails of things you are doing to help yourself progress so I can post them in the blog as well.

Each week, I will update the Current Leaders list on the right hand side of the page based on that week's results.  I will only post pounds lost and the percentage.  I am using your first weigh-in number as the base line.  To calculate percentage lost, I am dividing total pounds lost by initial weight.

    Where We're Headed...

Now that we have a group to start with, here's how the blog will work.  I will post an update weekly of our individual progress.  I would also like you to use this as a site to help you motivate yourself toward success:

    • Do you want to establish weekly or overall personal weight loss goals?
    • What is working for you?  What habits or processes are you using?
    • What obstacles are you running into?
      • What trips you up in your weight loss efforts?
      • How have you worked around them?
      • What kind of help do you need?
    • Do you have recipes or tips/tricks that might be helpful?
    • Are you doing something that others might like to join, like a walking group, etc?
    • Are there websites, books, etc. that you would like to share?
If you have answers to any of these questions, or if you have things you would like to add to the "soup," just email it to lambclay@isu.edu and I will post it here.  The more active we are here, the more likely we are to stay focused and on track to meet our goals.

    Today's The Day!

Today's the day! Make sure you send me an email today with your username so I can post results and maintain your privacy. Just to be clear, when I say "post results," what I mean is that the only things I will be posting are usernames, pounds lost, and percentage of weight lost for that week. No real weights will be involved.

I am so glad so many of you have decided to join us in this adventure. The reality is that every pound lost by any of us represents a step toward freedom, health, and happiness for everyone. From personal experience, I can honestly say that I know that weight has had a huge impact on the way I see myself, how I treat myself, and how I treat others. I have found that engaging in this program has really given me a sense of control over my life and how I feel about the direction my life is taking. I can only hope that you will experience the same sense of liberation. Good luck to us all!
